Counter Currents Movie Review of American Psycho

http://www.counter-currents.com/2013/01/american-psycho/#more-35417

by  Gregory Hood

Obviously, most viewers are missing even the intended anti-capitalist satire . . . but there is something subversive inherent in the material. Bret Easton Ellis is perhaps one of the most biting trolls of Twitter, poking fun at the new taboos of the internet age. When Dan Savage received a media assist in his transformation from sexual degenerate to Civil Rights Leader (hey, it worked for Martin Luther King) and debuted his “It Gets Better” campaign, Ellis tweeted, “Can we get a reality check here? It gets worse.” He also called Glee “a puddle of HIV.” The howls of prissy hysteria from the white knights of cyberspace read like Bateman’s exposition on morality to Stash and Vanden. Though he’s hardly a Traditionalist, Ellis at least sees that the urgent moral imperatives of our time are so much tripe. Like Ellis’s characters in The Rules of Attraction, Americans frantically drug, drink, rut, and amuse themselves away from the nothingness of American life and the bankruptcy of its moral code.

Ellis noted that when he was writing the book, it was as if being possessed by a dark spirit. That specter still haunts the continent. Objectively speaking, crime is down, violence as a whole is declining worldwide, and despite the struggling economy, we still live in a country where one of the most serious problems is people can’t stop eating all the food that’s available. Yet we are bound with invisible chains regulating every aspect of our behavior, envious of the human debris at the top of our social pyramid, outraged at the bestial creatures that have ravaged our major cities (and our budget), and disgusted at what passes for a culture.

There’s a dark passenger separated from compassion, empathy, and love within many Americans, breaking free in outbreaks of nihilistic horror. The country has become ugly – spiritually, morally, even physically – and while everyone disagrees on the cause, the undercurrent of fury in American life seems to be a constant. Millions sense it, even if they don’t know what it means. As Patrick Bateman says, “Something horrible is happening inside me, and I don’t know why.” When you build a country upon a lie, a state without a real nation, people, or culture, then “greed and disgust” is all that remains.

Patrick Bateman has a dark appeal because we understand this disgust with what the country has become. We share his shameful greed for the luxuries that secretly appeal to us. We sympathize with his anger and we can’t help but admire his style, even as we despise ourselves for it. While thrown into a ruthless world of all against all, we are expected to respect social conventions and egalitarian cant. We are told to avoid physical aggression even though the social conflict and personal destruction is as real as any medieval battlefield. The serial killer dressed in Valentino suits literally cutting through the hypocrisy and pretense of the corporate caste system with axe and chainsaw at least openly displays what he is.

In Francis Fukuyama’s The End of History and the Last Man, he notes that those possessing strong “megalothymia,” the desire for recognition of superiority and greatness, can only channel it into commercial enterprises in our Brave New World. To paraphrase Henry Kissinger’s comment on academia, the competition for status in our society is so fierce precisely because the stakes are so small. Of course, even though Bateman supposedly exemplifies the “yuppie,” we don’t see him chasing the dollar. We don’t actually see him doing much of anything at the office, except making reservations at restaurants, watching talk shows, and filling out crossword puzzles in disturbing ways.

Citizen satirizes proposed local firearms ordinances

Colin Goddard is a Coward who wants to make you just as worthless...

Recently I saw Colin Goddard quoted as saying (I paraphrase), "I was paralyzed with fear, I was unable to do anything but lay on the floor and wait to be shot. Having a gun in that classroom would have been useless."

I submit that this is the reason that the Goddards are gun grabbing zealots - Colin is a self described and admitted coward who could only wait for his own death instead of taking action to save his life or the lives of others. They project their impotence onto others, ignoring the countless incidents where armed citizens under attack were able to successfully defend themselves. From soldiers to cowboys to shopkeepers to police to homeowners; many people have used the gun for good - for self defense. Better to disarm everyone than be proven a coward (or a someone without impulse control, etc.)

Assistant Principal Myrick, Pearl Mississippi, stopped a school shooter with a shotgun by retrieving his handgun from his car. Jeanne Assam, church security volunteer, stopped a church shooter armed with an AK before he could massacre the congregation. Nick Meli, shopper, stopped a mall shooter. The stories are out there. When you consider that far less than 1 percent of the population regularly carries a concealed firearm, imagine how many crimes could be stopped if every good person did the same. How many violent crimes and shooting sprees would never even be contemplated if the prospective shooter knew there was a good chance he would be stopped by an armed citizen? Except of course in Virginia's institutions of compulsory and higher learning, which to wanna be shooters, are attractive free fire zones. It's for the children, after all.

Carolyn McCarthy to Retire... I'm not the only one that hates this bitch.

Koo Liu ·  Top Commenter
Good riddance you despicable, bloated, corrupt, alcoholic, sacrilegious demon. You fooled many jackasses over the years, capitalizing and profiting off the death of your estranged "husband" and crippling of your chip off the ole block son (alcoholic & drug abuser too). You never bothered to include in the narrative about your husband how he hated you, lived in the garage of your house in Mineola, and had barely uttered a word to you in months prior to him getting blown away. Or the fact that it was because you were a drunk and pill abuser that was known for "acquiring" pills from sources inside what was then Mineola Hospital. No, you never mentioned how you were a bar-fly getting passes around and plowed by too many Portuguese construction workers to list. We can only hope that the curse is upon you too, along with your dead "husband" and crippled son, and that YOU SUFFER an amount commensurate with the damage you have caused to innocent people because of your corruption and politics. May Obamacare wreak havoc on you (though unlikely) and since you will get special privileged treatment may the cancer be sooo aggressive and painful that nothing will make any difference. LOLOLOLOOLOLOLLOL....

In response to a critical review of Spike Jone's "Her"

I am not sure this story could have been told in anyway to make this reviewer happy. I am picturing it with reversed gender roles, and I think men would come out villianious in that version as well. "A shy introverted woman seeks out a reliable and comforting male figure to sort her life and provide companionship and is left devistated when he abandons her." In that version it would be "this movies postulates that woman are esentaily incomplete without the guidance of a strong man" in this version it's "men need woman to be one dimensional do what you are told nannies" I wonder if the reviewer thinks spike intentionaly was trying to make these broad gender statments or if he just had a simple idea for a story and all of his patriarchal bias just leaked out naturally.

Amnesty? How about no.

Thank you Mr. Culberson I with you all the way. Any form of amnesty will destroy the republic. Why don't we allow a few million Chinese amnesty as well.
The only other thing to do is secede.
