15-year mandatory minimum federal sentence for possessing shotgun shells (no shotgun) almost 20 years after past felonies - The Washington Post

15-year mandatory minimum federal sentence for possessing shotgun shells (no shotgun) almost 20 years after past felonies - The Washington Post: "If you're trying to make the case that crooks deserve 15 years for shotgun shells because the powder in them can be misused, I'd think you would also want to proscribe felons from possessing fireworks, acetylene, and so on. And yet, curiously, a convicted arsonist can buy and store gasoline, and a convicted slasher can keep knives. It's not even, I think, a weapon vs. non weapon thing; someone who completes his sentence for a sword murder can go right out and buy another sword. "
